What would you do? As a BC / DR Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day management of the team, including regular one-on-one and team meetings. You will own the overall project and task management to keep the team on track of infrastructure projects including maintenance, upgrades and new solution builds. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of backup and disaster recovery technologies, cloud infrastructure, and hyper-scalers while applying industry best practices to ensure operational resilience and service excellence.

What are the details?

Primary Responsibilities :

Monitoring of ticket queue, actioning and / or delegating tickets to the appropriate team members

Coordinate technical training, guidance, and mentorship to BCDR Engineers

Manage and prioritize tasks and projects assigned by the VP of Customer Engineering to ensure that BCDR resources are properly allocated, and deadlines are met

Manage and maintain operational documentation related to standard operating procedures and practices

Analyze and improve organizational processes and workflow

Lead the development, implementation, and tracking of departmental goals and strategies

Define, track and report delivery commitments, management of incidents owned by the team, and be the Point of Contact (POC) on High / Urgent tickets bridges and initial escalation point to coordinate the right platform / technical resources needed

Define KPIs and operational annual goals

Ensure appropriate personnel, business policies, objectives, and procedures are in place within the organization to drive excellence, impact product reliability, and facilitate revenue

Backup and Replication Infrastructure :

Oversee performance, availability and capacity of Veeam and Zerto environments, addressing any potential bottlenecks or issues

Serve as an escalation point for health checks, support issues, and leverage vendor support when necessary

Ensure system stability by planning timely software upgrades on both Veeam and Zerto platforms

Best Practices Implementation :

Apply industry best practices for patching and maintaining Veeam and Zerto platforms, ensuring minimal downtime

Create and maintain internal management processes, ensuring all critical security patches are applied promptly without disrupting services

Create new and maintain established internal best practices for data backup, replication, and recovery, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of a disaster

Disaster Recovery Planning :

Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity for both Opti9 Technologies and its customers

Collaborate with customers to implement tailored disaster recovery solutions that meet their RTOs and RPOs

Provide guidance on disaster recovery strategies using Zerto and Veeam for replication and failover

Customer Support & Escalations :

Serve as an escalation point for Opti9 Level 1 and 2 support to resolve complex troubleshooting issues, working with vendor support as needed to ensure a high level of service

Documentation & Reporting :

Create, maintain, and update documentation of internal system configurations, procedures, and issues for internal reference

Creation of client specific documentation and configurations as required

Generate reports following Opti9’s SOPs on backup performance, incidents, and compliance with recovery objectives

What do you know?

Education & Certifications :

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience

Veeam (e.g., Veeam Certified Engineer – VMCE) and Zerto (e.g., Zerto Certified Professional) preferred but not required

Technical Knowledge & Experience :

2+ years of management experience, ideally in a backup and disaster recovery role

Hands-on experience with Veeam Cloud Connect, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Zerto, including backup, replication, and failover management preferred

Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi, vCenter and vCloud Director

Experience working in cloud-based environments (Azure, AWS, etc.) preferred

Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V

Understanding of networking fundamentals and experience with disaster recovery networking considerations

Familiarity with Windows and Linux server administration

General Knowledge & Experience :

Detail-oriented with a strong focus on maintaining uptime and meeting service level agreements

Verbal and written communication skills

Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices

Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills

Process and procedure development

Scheduling and coordination experience

Time management and ability to multi-task

Experience working in a team environment and ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment

Applicants must be willing to work on location in our Ottawa office at least 2x per week
