Battery Pack Test Engineer
Location: Windsor, CA
Pay: $46.00
Contract to Direct

Description:
North America Battery Test Lab is seeking a Battery Pack Test Engineer to execute various battery pack development and validation tests to support our strong Electric Vehicle portfolio. The successful candidate has an opportunity to contribute to a world-class battery lab from the launch stage all the way to the full operation.
Initially the role will be focused on training, documentation and launch of the lab. The Battery Pack Test Engineer will be required to complete all needed training and follow all lab safety processes and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing work procedures for all standard work associated with battery pack testing conforming to existing safety standards; assist in develop test report templates; assist in the commissioning of the new battery pack testbeds.


After the launch of the lab, the role responsibilities would shift to the execution of tests, focusing on obtaining the highest quality of data in the most efficient manner possible. The Battery Pack Test Engineer will work with lab technicians on test preparation, test setup, test execution and post-test battery handling. The role will be responsible for the creation of a formal test report at the completion of testing as well as any intermediate reports to the test requestors as requested on running or issue status.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to,
In lab launch stage:
  • Complete all required training; follow all safety requirements
  • Become competent in using the hardware and software of the battery pack test system
  • Become proficient in how to execute test scripts and how to create reports utilizing report templates
  • Ensure hardware and software support needs are addressed during installation of equipment and set up of the lab
  • Support the commissioning of equipment
Lab in full operation:
  • Perform day to day testing
  • Ensure all tests comply with lab safety requirements
  • Keep test requestors informed on status of all running tests
  • Employ best practices in all tests and test reports
  • Ensure all test reports provide the highest possible quality
  • Provide reports based on test results in a timely manner on completion of testing
  • Proactively work to resolve test issues
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during testing
  • Work with schedulers to maintain highest level of utilization of test equipment
  • Ensure all training requirements are kept up to date
  • Escalate issues to management as needed\

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Practical skills of common laboratory tools and instruments
  • Experience of setting up, maintaining, and monitoring tests according to test procedures
  • Experience of collecting, analyzing and visualizing test data
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion batteries, battery performance and battery testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; attention to detail
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

Preferred Requirements:
  • Master of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Experience with AVL PUMA or similar battery test systems
  • Experience with CAN tools such as Vector CANalyzer
  • Experience with calibration and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA
  • Experience with EV battery pack diagnosis, Root cause analysis and teardown
  • Proficiency with data processing using MATLAB or Python
  • Experience with DVP&R test plan execution
  • Prior experience or knowledge of ISO 17025 or 9001 accreditation

Additional Must Haves:
  • Know EV batteries key characteristics and performance index
  • Hands-on experience in vehicle components / subsystem test (EV, battery relevant is preferred)
  • Know CAN bus communication and tools.
  • 3 years or more experience required
  • Location: 100% Onsite (ARDC, 3939 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, ON, CA)
  • No Driving a Stellantis Vehicle required
  • Travel: The ability to travel to the US for occasional meetings and trainings is preferred but not a hard requirement (occasional meaning 1 or 2 times per month)
  • The successful candidate will be required to work afternoon and midnight shifts
