Job description

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John’s, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a Barista to join our growing team at JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive “can-do” attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and customer service skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Greet and serve customers in a friendly and polite manner
  • Provide menu information, answer questions, and promote specials or seasonal items
  • Prepare coffee, espresso, tea, and other beverages accurately
  • Take and deliver orders promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Follow up with customers to ensure quality service and guest satisfaction
  • Replenish supplies and restock items throughout the shift
  • Clean and sanitize tables, chairs, equipment, and work areas regularly
  • Maintain a clean working area, ensuring all brewers and machines are cleaned regularly
  • Demonstrate a professional and positive presentation to guests and colleagues, and be well groomed
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and quality control guidelines
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

  • A minimum of 1 year in a customer service or food service role is preferred
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of coffee brewing methods, espresso preparation, and tea brewing is considered an asset
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail when preparing drinks and taking customer orders
  • Good organization skills, with the ability to keep work areas clean and orderly
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a part of a team
