We're looking to build up a bank of available candidates for sporadic, on-call, and short-term replacements in our schools and centres.


Salary:
$24.62 per hour

Nature of the work:
The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consist of being responsible for carrying out maintenance work as well as the preventive and physical upkeep of an educational institution or building, covering a total area of less than 9,275 m2. The role also involves organizing, executing, coordinating, and overseeing such work, including supervising other employees when necessary. Additionally, the employee performs the characteristic functions of the maintenance workman, class II.


Description of tasks

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the premises.
  • Organize and carry out maintenance work by performing Maintenance Workman Class II duties.
  • Maintain the condition of maintenance apparatus and equipment.
  • Ensure the building and its equipment are in good condition, including:
    • Inspect and verify lighting, heating, and ventilation systems.
    • Ensure the operation of heating equipment.
    • Carry out or oversee preventive maintenance.
    • Perform minor or temporary repairs.
    • Report breakdowns and coordinate repairs.
    • Follow up on work performed by other workers.
    • Repair doors, windows, furniture.
    • Assemble and install materials as needed.
  • Ensure adequate security against fire and theft.
  • Monitor visitors, students, and staff if necessary.
  • Prepare rooms and halls as required.
  • Order and purchase materials, products, and equipment for maintenance, maintaining inventory and ensuring safety standards in handling and disposal.
  • Make suggestions regarding products, materials, equipment, and work methods.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and oversee the work of other nonspecialized employees if required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Experience
    At least three years of relevant experience.


    Practical skills
    General knowledge of heating, ventilation, lighting, and alarm systems overseen by caretakers, and a basic understanding of main building trades.
