Job description

North Middlesex are recruiting for an experienced and passionate Band 6 - Colorectal Associate Nurse to join their highly skilled team.

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is a medium-sized District General Hospital based in Edmonton, Enfield, North London. We serve a diverse, multicultural population largely from the London boroughs of Enfield and Haringey. Many of our patients live in wards within the 5% most deprived in the UK, and a large proportion were born abroad. This makes it both a fascinating and challenging hospital to work in. Over the last decade, we have rebuilt almost all of the hospital and now have facilities we are proud of. We employ over 3,500 staff, more than half of whom live locally. We encourage apprenticeships from the local community and work closely with our local Health Watch. Our hospital is primarily emergency-led, with over 90% of bed days used for patients admitted via emergency and ambulatory units. We also offer tertiary services for HIV, Sickle Cell Disease, cancer, and radiotherapy, and run local Sexual Health Clinics. We are committed to staff training to ensure excellent clinical care and are a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, as well as nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.

The postholder supports the Macmillan Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in providing high-quality, evidence-based care to colorectal cancer patients.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing cases for Colorectal Cancer Multi-professional Team (CRC MDT) meetings and ensuring data completeness.
  2. Following up on post-MDT actions and providing expert advice on care, including surgical options, adjuvant therapy, and living with the disease.
  3. Collaborating with other CNS teams, including Stoma care, ERAS, and office staff, to address patient concerns and develop management plans.
  4. Signposting patients to appropriate departments/agencies and undertaking Macmillan Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA) at key points.
  5. Attending surgical and oncology outpatient appointments (OPA) to support patients and liaising with the chemotherapy unit.
  6. Being available in the endoscopy unit to support patients undergoing investigations.
  7. Promoting teamwork and integration within the nursing team.

Requirements:

  • Registered General Nurse
  • First degree in a related subject (Cancer, Palliative Care, or lower GI) or currently undertaking a Degree Pathway.
  • Relevant post-registration experience at Band 5 or above in cancer, palliative care, or colorectal nursing, in primary or secondary care settings.
  • Experience of multi-professional working.
  • Experience of teaching patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to support and influence change and to recognize and support emotional responses.

We offer:

  • Access to free Bank Partners Core Skills training.
  • Guaranteed line of work.
  • Weekly pay.
