Free Play for Kids is seeking a passionate and reliable Ball Hockey Coach to support Jr. Wolves programs across Edmonton.
You’ll lead ball hockey practices, work with Regional Managers and Head Coaches, and help ensure a safe, inclusive experience for all participants. The ideal candidate has coaching or playing experience in hockey or ball hockey, plus the ability to teach across soccer and basketball when needed.
Free Play for Kids is seeking a passionate and reliable Ball Hockey Coach to support our Jr. Wolves sports programs across Edmonton. This role is primarily focused on ball hockey. The ability to confidently coach a team in all three Jr. Wolves sports — soccer, basketball, and ball hockey — is considered a strong asset, as it allows coaches to coach across multiple seasons, which is the ideal.
These programs give youth the chance to build their skills, confidence, and love of sport in a fun, supportive environment. As a Ball Hockey Coach, you’ll work closely with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to deliver high-quality ball hockey practices and help ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants.
This role is ideal for energetic individuals with a strong background in sport, especially hockey or ball hockey, and a passion for mentorship and community impact.
Experience coaching kids and youth in hockey or ball hockey (required)
Experience playing hockey or ball hockey at any level (required)
Coaching or playing experience across all three Jr. Wolves sports (soccer, basketball, and ball hockey) is a strong asset, as it allows coaches to coach across multiple seasons
Working toward or completed a diploma/degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sport & Recreation, Education, or related fields considered an asset
Standard First Aid & CPR certification
Clear, up-to-date Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
Experience using tools like Google Workspace, Google Meet, or Connecteam is an asset
Driver’s licence and access to transportation
Lead and support Jr. Wolves ball hockey practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
Coach monthly internal league ball hockey games with Jr Wolves team on Thursdays
Coach structured, skill-based training sessions in ball hockey
Promote Free Play’s Sport to Life values, emphasizing inclusion, confidence, and resilience through sport
Maintain equipment, complete setup and cleanup, and ensure safe play environments
Record shift notes and observations to support ongoing program improvement
Serve as a positive role model and mentor, helping every participant feel supported and valued
Passion for youth development through sport
Strong understanding of hockey and ball hockey fundamentals
Comfort teaching or facilitating basic gameplay in the other Jr. Wolves sports (soccer and basketball) is an asset
Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
Effective communicator with both youth and colleagues
Adaptable and able to thrive in dynamic, community-based settings
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive youth development
Schedule:
Practices: 2–4 weekday sessions per week (depending on the number of teams coached), 4:00–6:00 PM
Games: once per week on a weekday, between 4:30 and 8:00 PM
Reports to: Regional Manager
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week
Wage: $20–$22/hour (based on experience)
Seasonal, part-time role (8–10 hours/week)
Work is primarily in schools, recreation centers, and community facilities across Edmonton
