Qualifications

  • Coaching or playing across all three Jr. Wolves sports (soccer, basketball, and ball hockey) is a strong asset
  • Working toward or completed a diploma/degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sport & Recreation, Education, or related fields considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (up-to-date)
  • Experience using tools like Google Workspace, Google Meet, or Connecteam is an asset
  • Driver's licence and access to transportation

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Jr. Wolves soccer practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
  • Coach monthly internal league soccer games with Jr Wolves team on Thursdays
  • Coach structured, skill-based training sessions in soccer
  • Promote Free Play's Sport to Life values, emphasizing inclusion, confidence, and resilience through sport
  • Maintain equipment, complete setup and cleanup, and ensure safe play environments
  • Record shift notes and observations to support ongoing program improvement
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, helping every participant feel supported and valued

Job description

Free Play for Kids is seeking a passionate and reliable Soccer Coach to support our Jr. Wolves sports programs across Edmonton. This role is primarily focused on soccer. The ability to confidently coach a team in all three Jr. Wolves sports - soccer, basketball, and ball hockey - is considered a strong asset, as it allows coaches to coach across multiple seasons, which is the ideal.


These programs give youth the chance to build their skills, confidence, and love of sport in a fun, supportive environment. As a Soccer Coach, you'll work closely with Regional Managers and Head Coaches to deliver high-quality soccer practices and help ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants.


This role is ideal for energetic individuals with a strong background in sport, especially soccer, and a passion for mentorship and community impact.


Education & Qualifications

Experience coaching kids and youth in soccer (required)


Experience playing soccer at any level (required)


Coaching or playing experience across all three Jr. Wolves sports (soccer, basketball, and ball hockey) is a strong asset, as it allows coaches to coach across multiple seasons

Skills & Knowledge

Passion for youth development through sport


Strong understanding of soccer fundamentals


Comfort teaching or facilitating basic gameplay in the other Jr. Wolves sports (basketball and ball hockey) is an asset


Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented


Effective communicator with both youth and colleagues


Adaptable and able to thrive in dynamic, community-based settings


Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive youth development


Position Conditions

Schedule:


Practices: 2-4 weekday sessions per week (depending on the number of teams coached), 4:00-6:00 PM


Games: once per week on a weekday, between 4:30 and 8:00 PM


Reports to: Regional Manager


Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week


Wage: $20-$22/hour (based on experience)


Seasonal, part-time role (8-10 hours/week)


Work is primarily in schools, recreation centers, and community facilities across Edmonton
