Job summary

Calgary Co-op in Cochrane, AB is seeking a Bakery Utility Clerk to support daily bakery operations and customer service. You’ll assist with baking processes, product displays, stocking, and maintenance while following safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 9 or acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Bakery retail or related retail experience.
• Desirable: Bakery product knowledge / experience.
• Employees must complete Foodwise #14 course.

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations.
• Performs bakery utility functions including paning and bake-off ovens operation, cake icing, and display upkeep.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality and price integrity.
• Performs general clean up duties to keep sales floor and back stock area neat.
• Follows Occupational Health & Safety and Food Safety policies.
• Keeps equipment in good condition and reports repairs.
• Manages ordering and receiving of merchandise and supplies.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.

The Bakery Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. The Bakery Clerk position reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor/Bakery Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
• Performs all aspects of the Bakery Utility function including but not limited to panning and the operation of the bake-off ovens, bakery platter preparation, icing of names and/or messages on cakes, facing, stocking displays in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality and minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
• Performs general clean up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department is maintained. Responsible for ensuring the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including disposal of garbage.
• Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
• Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools; and reports repair requirements to the Bakery Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.
• Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
• Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory
