Job summary

Calgary Co-op in Alberta is hiring a Bakery Utility Clerk to help provide excellent customer service while keeping the bakery safe and efficient. You will support daily operations, assist in bake-off processes, icing cakes, stocking displays, and maintaining stock levels.

Ideal candidates have Grade 9 or equivalent, bakery retail experience, and fluency in English. The role offers growth, benefits, and a team‑oriented environment within our community‑m focused cooperative.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service and maintain positive customer relations.

• Handle merchandise, substitutions, and price integrity.
• Keep sales floor and back stock clean and organized.
• Follow health, safety, and food safety policies.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory.

The Bakery Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. The Bakery Clerk position reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor, Bakery Manager, and the main responsibilities include:

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
• Performs all aspects of the Bakery Utility function including but not limited to panning and the operation of the bake-off ovens, bakery platter preparation, icing of names and/or messages on cakes, facing, stocking displays in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality and minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
• Performs general clean up duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department is maintained. Responsible for ensuring the sales floor and back stock area are clean of cardboard and debris, including disposal of garbage.
• Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
• Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools; and reports repair requirements to the Bakery Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.
• Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
• Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory
