Job summary

Wonderbrands is seeking a Food/Bakery Technologist (Process Engineer) to provide technical expertise across quality, waste management, production efficiency, and product development. You will troubleshoot, optimize processes and equipment, and train plant staff on new technologies and manufacturing methods.

Candidates should have a science/engineering degree and 1+ years bakery R&D experience, with strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and the ability to travel across Canada.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years Bakery R&D experience with knowledge of plant equipment, processes and ingredient functionality.
  • Mechanical aptitude for understanding the limits of plant equipment.
  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based decision making.
  • Ability to travel nationally ~25% (coast to coast within Canada).
  • French language ability is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting in facilities to reduce quality complaints via process optimization.
  • Investigate and resolve product variations using a scientific approach.
  • Improve processes through innovation and testing of new technologies.
  • Distribute knowledge of process and equipment across all facilities.

  • Identify and support cost savings through process optimization and substitutions.
  • Work with PD, QA and Manufacturing on new product launches and improvements.

Summary

The Food/Bakery Technologist (Process Engineer) is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to Bakeries on a wide range of subjects, including: quality, waste management, production efficiency, product formulation and design, equipment set-up and productivity standards. Additional tasks may include product development/improvement, ingredient evaluation and identifying cost-savings opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead troubleshooting in facilities and work with manufacturing teams to reduce quality complaints through the optimization of processes and formulae.
  • Investigate and resolve product variations by applying a scientific approach to the variables.
  • Improve current processes through innovation and the testing of new technologies
  • Become familiar with every aspect of process and equipment capability in order to distribute knowledge amongst all facilities.
  • Provide training and technical support to plants to ensure products meet customer expectations. This will include providing direct training on new technologies and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and support cost savings measures through process optimization, ingredient substitutions and reductions, or formulae optimization.
  • Work closely with PD, QA and Manufacturing to support new product launches as well as the development/improvement of existing products.
Required Experience
  • Post-Secondary education in the Sciences (Chemistry), Engineering or Food Science/Engineering degree;
  • 1+ years of Bakery R&D experience (knowledge of plant equipment, processes and ingredient functionality);
  • Mechanical aptitude for understanding the limits of plant equipment (a strong asset)
  • Strong analytical skills and fact-based decision making capability;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels in a manufacturing environment (shop floor, supervisors, technical staff) as well as other departments (marketing, etc.);
  • The ability to translate complex problems into simple language; and
  • The ability to travel nationally and work flexible hours as required
  • Some travel as required ~25% (coast to coast within Canada)
  • Bilingual in French is an asset
