Overview

Our operations involve state-of-the-art bread lines, industrial ovens, automated mixing systems, conveyorized packaging, and ingredient handling equipment.

Responsibilities
  1. Machinery Installation, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical and electromechanical components of bakery production equipment (e.g., mixers, sheeters, dividers, proofers, slicers, baggers).
  • Conduct emergency breakdown response and root cause analysis to minimize production downtime.
  • Calibrate control systems and sensors to meet baking and processing specifications.
  • Rebuild or replace defective parts such as bearings, belts, shafts, gearboxes, and pneumatic valves.
  • Daily calibrations/tasks to ensure constant machinery uptime.
  1. Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules on all bakery plant equipment.
  • Perform regular diagnostics, lubrication, alignment checks, and part replacements.
  • Perform weekly, monthly and quarterly Preventative Maintenance routines to ensure consistent performance and reduction of machine downtimes.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment logs.
  1. Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Comply with GMPs, food safety standards, and lock-out/tag-out protocols.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections and ensure all machinery operates within CSA and OHSA compliance.
  • Document and report potential hazards or malfunctions.
  1. Coordination with External Technicians
  • Liaise with specialized service providers (e.g., Mecatherm OEM reps) for escalated issues or calibration work.
  • Supervise contractor work on-site, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  1. Inventory and Parts Management
  • Maintain stock of critical spare parts, tools, and consumables.
  • Prepare requisitions and coordinate timely ordering to avoid operational delays.
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Recommend and implement modifications to equipment and processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Support capital upgrade projects, line commissioning, and installation of new machinery.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Completion of at least a secondary diploma or trade apprenticeship in industrial mechanics, electromechanical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Trade certification in this Occupation is Voluntary in Ontario.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of industrial mechanic experience, preferably in food manufacturing or baking environments.
  • Strong understanding of bakery machinery, process automation, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation practices.
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs, work in hot/cold environments, and navigate confined spaces.
Work Conditions
  • Fast-paced production environment with exposure to industrial ovens and automated machinery.
  • Rotating shifts may be required depending on production schedules.
  • Use of PPE is mandatory in designated zones.
