Job summary

Farm Boy Inc. in Ottawa is seeking a hands-on Store Manager on Duty to lead a department and deliver exceptional customer service while driving strong business results.

You will partner with the Store Manager and Retail Specialist to execute strategies, coach a high-performance team, and ensure compliance and safety. This role offers growth within Farm Boy and opportunities to support local communities.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary program with an emphasis in business and at least 3 years of supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, and Level A First Aid & CPR, or commitment to obtain within six months.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated team engagement.
  • Comfort with both manual and automated systems and various computer software applications.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; French is an asset.

  • Build a culture of trust and engagement through coaching and regular team huddles sharing goals and feedback.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, coaching, performance reviews, recognition, and ongoing development.
  • Promote company policies and ensure compliance within manuals, handbooks, and written directives.
  • Oversee inventory management, ordering, item maintenance, quality and rotation, shrink, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll.
  • Participate in store coverage rotations as Manager on Duty, including opening/closing duties and emergency response.
  • Ensure adherence to Safe Food Handling and Health & Safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to store success by undertaking additional responsibilities as needed.

  • Develop and lead a high‑performance team by overseeing recruitment, training, coaching, performance reviews, recognition, and ongoing development while maintaining confidentiality and trust.
  • Promote and communicate company policies and procedures as outlined during management meetings and within policy manuals, employee handbooks, and written directives to ensure consistent compliance.
  • Oversee departmental operations and business deliverables, including inventory management, ordering, item maintenance, product quality and rotation, shrink management, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll functions.
  • Participate in store coverage rotations as Manager on Duty, including opening and closing duties and supporting emergency alarm response when required.
  • Ensure adherence to all Safe Food Handling and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to overall store success by undertaking additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

  • Completion of a post‑secondary program with an emphasis in business, plus a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, and Level A First Aid & Basic CPR, or a commitment to obtain all required certifications within six months of hire.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment, effectively managing competing priorities while maintaining high performance standards.

  • Comfort learning and working with both manual and automated systems, along with experience using various computer software applications.
  • Thrive in a hands‑on setting that involves extended periods of standing, heavy lifting, and work that may be performed in cooler, freezer, and outdoor conditions.
  • Flexibility to work a dynamic schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; French language skills considered an asset.
