The Bakery Decorator is responsible for ensuring customer service through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures, and standards. The role includes providing direction and supervision to Bakery Utility Clerks in the absence of the Bakery Supervisor. The Bakery Decorator reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor / Bakery Manager. Main responsibilities include:

  • Providing customer service and maintaining positive customer relations by handling questions, comments, requests, and complaints effectively. Working proficiently and friendly in a diverse team environment.
  • Performing all aspects of bakery decorating functions, including stocking, displays, and facing in an organized manner. Ensuring display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
  • Handling merchandise to ensure quality, minimize damages and markdowns, providing substitutions, and maintaining price integrity including price changes.
  • Performing general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to keep the department neat and organized. Keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean and disposing of garbage properly.
  • Following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure health and safety of staff and customers.
  • Ensuring proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, and reporting repair needs to the Bakery or Duty Manager.
  • Managing all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Handling receiving duties, including reviewing and verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage of products.
  • Organizing and conducting inventory.
  • Providing direction and supervision in the bakery in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager, ensuring daily functions are carried out efficiently and health and safety rules are followed. Giving verbal feedback on employee performance and conduct. Conducting technical training and day-to-day instruction.
  • Applying effective customer service techniques.
  • Replacing shifts and authorizing appropriate documents.
  • Finishing, inspecting, preparing, and decorating baked goods. Cutting and slicing products as required.
  • Assisting in developing new products, creating designs, and handling special orders.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Grade 12 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Bakery and decorating training and experience.
  • Must pass in-house Bakery Decorator testing.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Wilton Decorating course or equivalent experience.
