Job description

The Bakery Decorator is responsible for ensuring customer service by maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures, and standards. The Bakery Decorator provides direction and supervision to Bakery Utility Clerks in the absence of the Bakery Supervisor. The position reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor/Bakery Manager, with main responsibilities including:

  1. Providing customer service and maintaining positive relations through proper handling of questions, comments, requests, and complaints. Working effectively in a diverse team environment in a friendly manner.
  2. Performing all aspects of bakery decorating functions, including stocking, displays, and facing in an organized manner. Ensuring display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
  3. Handling merchandise to ensure quality, minimize damages and markdowns, providing substitutions, and ensuring price integrity and changes.
  4. Performing cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures, keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from debris, and disposing of garbage.
  5. Following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure safety for staff and customers.
  6. Maintaining proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, and reporting repairs as needed.
  7. Managing all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  8. Handling receiving tasks including reviewing invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage.
  9. Organizing and conducting inventory.
  10. Providing direction and supervision in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager, ensuring daily functions are carried out efficiently, safety rules are followed, and staff performance is managed through verbal feedback and training. Approving shift replacements and related documentation.
  11. Finishing, inspecting, preparing, and decorating baked goods, including cutting and slicing products as required.
  12. Assisting in developing new products, creating designs, and handling special orders.

Required skills and abilities:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent education and experience
  • Bakery and decorating training and experience
  • Ability to pass in-house Bakery Decorator testing

Preferred skills and abilities:

  • Supervisory experience
  • S.A.I.T. or Wilton Decorating course or equivalent
