Job summary

Otter Co-op is hiring a part-time Bakery Associate for our Retail Centre in Langley, BC. Reporting to the Bakery Manager, you will assist in designing recipes, bake goods, decorate displays, and ensure quality finishes while delivering excellent customer service.

You should have previous baking experience; retail/customer service is an asset, and a food safety certification is beneficial. This role requires physical stamina and open availability seven days a week.

Qualifications

• Previous baking experience preferred.
• Previous retail / customer service experience is an asset.
• Food handling experience and a food safety certification are assets.
• Excellent communication skills; able to work in a team or independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and improving recipes.
• Measure and combine ingredients; operate mixers and other equipment to bake goods.
• Decorate and display finished products; ensure quality finishes.
• Maintain proper storage, labeling and rotation of food products.
• Greet customers, answer questions, take orders and process payments; provide exceptional service.
• Keep records of deliveries, inventory and production levels.
• Assist with deliveries and ensure on-time fulfillment; restock and sanitize workstations.
• Follow opening and closing procedures; contribute to a SAFE work environment.

What you’ll do:

Reporting to the Bakery Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Assisting in designing and improving recipes
• Measuring and combining ingredients and safely using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other equipment to make baked goods, such as cookies, bread, cakes, etc.
• Decorating and displaying finished products and features
• Add a quality finish to baked items and packed products
• Maintain proper storage, labelling and rotation of food products
• Greeting customers, answering questions, making recommendations, accepting orders and payments, and providing exceptional customer service
• Keeping records relating to deliveries, inventory, and production levels
• Taking client information and ensuring that deliveries are fulfilled accurately and on time
• Cleaning and restocking workstations and ensuring that all equipment is sanitized and prepared for the next shift
• Follow opening and closing procedures
• Contribute to the team in living the corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence
• Perform other duties as assigned

Who you are:

You are looking for a career in Retail Store Operations and:

• Previous Baking experience preferred
• Previous Retail / Customer Service an asset
• Previous experience handling food along with a food safe certification is an asset
• Must have excellent communication skills, be able to work efficiently in a team setting as well as independently in a fast-paced environment
• Must have a strong work ethic
• This is a physical job requiring the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift, push, pull up to 50pounds on occasion
• Must be committed to a SAFE working environment
• The ideal candidate will have open availability 7 days a week to work a variety of shifts, that include early mornings, afternoons and late evenings
• This position is based at the Retail Centre, though it may require on some occasions to travel and work at other locations as business needs arise
