Job summary

Aramark's Dal Food Services team in Halifax is seeking a bakery-focused team member to join our kitchen. You will bake and prepare a variety of items per recipes, set up your workstation with ingredients and equipment, and operate ovens and mixers while following safety guidelines.

You will help maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene, work well in a team, and provide excellent service to guests. This is a union position offering comprehensive benefits and stability.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years baking experience, preferably in institutional settings
• Knowledge of high standards of food safety and hygiene
• Ability to work supervised and unsupervised
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for customer service
• Additional location-specific certifications may be required

Job Responsibilities

• Bakes and prepares a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes
• Sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
• Prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, etc.
• Operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, etc.
• Safely uses a variety of utensils including knives
• Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures
• Cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
• Maintains excellent customer service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
• Adheres to Aramark safety policies and procedures including proper food safety and sanitation
• Ensures security of company assets

Qualifications

• 1-2 years baking experience preferably in institutional industries such as hospitals, higher education, or correctional facilities
• Experience with large quantity batch-baking an asset
• Valid WHMIS and Food Safe (Basic or Advanced), First Aid Certification is an asset
• Knowledge of and commitment to upholding high standards of food safety and hygiene
• Additional certification may be required by work location
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine desire to provide outstanding customer service
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

This is a union position with SEIU Local 2.
