Job description

Elizabeth Fry Toronto is hiring a Bail Court Navigator for a pilot project supporting justice-involved women with brain injuries at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre. This hybrid role involves court-based support and post-release case management, grounded in trauma-informed and gender-responsive approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist women appearing at bail court, especially those with brain injuries, in understanding legal processes and connecting with health and disability services.
  • Use anti-oppressive and harm reduction approaches to support clients' navigation through legal and health systems.
  • Provide community-based case management post-release to help clients transition out of custody.
  • Collaborate with court personnel, legal counsel, and community partners to support clients and reduce barriers.
  • Utilize BI screening tools and meet with clients before and after bail hearings for support and education.
  • Advocate for clients with service providers and assist with paperwork and appointments.
  • Develop short-term case plans focused on stabilization and resource connection.
  • Contribute to public education and act as a resource for court and health staff.
  • Work with researchers to collect data and evaluate the program.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Social Work, Justice Studies, Health Sciences, or related field; Brock University Brain Basics is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in case management, justice, or health systems supporting marginalized women.
  • Knowledge of ODSP, disability supports, healthcare navigation, and the criminal justice system’s impact on women and non-binary people.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, feminist, anti-racist, harm reduction practices.
  • Understanding of brain injury impacts on legal and health access.
  • Skills in case documentation, counselling, and client services.
  • Proficiency with client information systems and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in legal and diverse settings.
  • Bilingual in French or other languages is an asset.
  • Ability to travel between locations as needed.
  • Successful police background check required.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid role with presence at TRBC, Ontario Court of Justice, and community offices.
  • May involve court attendance, travel, and flexible hours.
  • High-pressure environment involving legal and personal crises.
