Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Backup Administrator to join our IT Operations team at Recochem Inc. In this critical role, you will ensure the integrity, availability, and security of organizational data through the implementation and maintenance of effective backup and recovery solutions. You will manage backup infrastructure, enforce best practices, and work closely with cross-functional teams to safeguard business-critical information.

The Backup Administrator must be available during major incidents or key project deployments to ensure timely response, recovery, and support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
• Regularly test and validate DR plans to ensure rapid service restoration and business continuity.
• Align backup and storage strategies with organizational growth and performance objectives.

2. Backup Operations & Monitoring

Monitor backup jobs and infrastructure for performance, availability, and integrity.

Manage routine backup tasks including job scheduling, error resolution, and data restores.

Perform diagnostics, resolve system alerts, and proactively prevent data loss and downtime.

Provide operational support for backup, SAN, and DR environments, ensuring high availability.

3. Administration & Optimization

Troubleshoot and resolve complex backup and storage issues through root-cause analysis.

Administer and optimize backup environments in line with industry standards and compliance requirements.

Automate backup operations using scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to improve efficiency.

Support infrastructure changes, including installation, configuration, and upgrades of backup, storage, and server hardware.

4. Compliance, Auditing & Documentation

Conduct regular system audits to ensure adherence to data protection policies and regulatory standards.

Maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, configurations, and compliance tasks (e.g., timekeeping, training).

5. Collaboration & Technical Support

Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure end-to-end data protection.

Provide user and team training on backup and recovery procedures.

Participate in incident response, support remote sites, and lead escalated troubleshooting.

Engage in vendor management, contribute to crisis resolution, and lead internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.

6. Technical Expertise

Expertise in backup technologies such as HP StoreOnce , EMC Data Domain , Tape Systems , VTLs , and external disk arrays.

Strong experience with enterprise storage systems and architectures.

Familiarity with virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).

Understanding of network configurations and protocols relevant to data backup and recovery.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement backup solutions in multi-technology environments.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum 3 years’ experience in backup administration or similar IT role.

Proficiency with enterprise backup tools (e.g., Veeam , Commvault , or equivalent).

Solid understanding of data protection, storage systems, and disaster recovery principles.

Experience in scripting (e.g., PowerShell , Python ) for automation.

Familiarity with cloud-based backup solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS).

Preferred

Certifications such as Veeam Certified Engineer , Commvault Certified Professional , or similar.

Experience in regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
