Job summary

Lyft in Toronto seeks a passionate backend engineer to build scalable pricing and driver-rider systems. You will work on latency-sensitive, distributed services using Python, Go, and AWS, partnering with cross-functional teams to meet business goals.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in software engineering, strong OO skills in Go or Python, and excellent communication. This hybrid role requires in-office presence three days per week in Toronto.

Qualifications

• BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, CS or related field or relevant work experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering industry experience.
• Extensive OO programming experience, ideally in Go or Python.
• Experience in backend distributed systems and concurrency.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive high-impact projects and deliver backend solutions for pricing, matching, and economics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology with business needs.
• Own features end-to-end from idea to launch.
• Unblock and support internal partners to achieve results.
• Write well-tested, readable, maintainable code.
• Leverage Python, Go and AWS to build scalable systems.
• Participate in code reviews and on-call rotations.
• Share knowledge through tech talks and brown bags.
