Job summary

Xero is seeking a backend-focused engineer to help transition from a monolith to microservices, building scalable services in AWS using C# and .NET Core. You will work across Vancouver and Wellington with hybrid in-office and remote days, contributing to product platforms that underpin invoices, bills, payments and payroll.

You will collaborate with teams to improve architecture, automate processes, and apply TDD and trunk-based development to drive engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Proficient backend development with one or more of C#, .NET, Java or Go.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, service-to-service communication, eventual consistency and resilience patterns.
• Experience with relational databases and ensuring transactional data integrity (ACID).
• Familiar with modern DevOps, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Transition from a monolithic architecture to microservices to remove bottlenecks and improve efficiency.
• Build and operate services in production cloud using C#, .NET Core, and AWS.
• Resolve legacy problems and database scalability challenges; modernize service interfaces/APIs.
• Automate processes and apply test-driven and trunk-based development practices.
