HelloFresh in Toronto is seeking a backend engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices as part of our New Ventures team. You will lead migrations from monoliths to microservices, review code, mentor junior engineers, optimize performance, and contribute architectural guidance across distributed systems.

The role embraces a flexible hybrid setup with minimum 3 days in the office; Canada-wide collaboration with global teams, offering a competitive CAD salary.

Qualifications

• Back-end engineer with strong focus on distributed systems and architecture.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Java with microservices experience.
• Experience migrating monoliths to microservices and leading technical initiatives.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and container orchestration tools.
• Solid Agile practices and ability to mentor teammates.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience using AI coding agents to assist codebase onboarding and navigation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable back-end services with distributed architecture.
• Lead migration of critical services from monoliths to microservices with high availability.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers in best practices.
• Analyze performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize efficiency.
