About the organization

Stripe’s Payments Acceptance and Risk organizations are at the heart of Stripe’s business. They are responsible for enabling our users to accept payments worldwide, in a secure and reliable fashion.

You may work on a wide variety of critical business areas including:

1. Payins: The Payins organization builds products and platforms to help users accept payments from customers, including the APIs for configuring and processing payments, and Cards, our highest volume and most complex method for accepting payments.
2. Local Payment Methods (LPM): The Local Payment Methods team is building the platform & enabling regional, non-card payment methods like Wallets, Buy Now Pay Later, Real Time Payments, Bank Transfers etc. that connect to millions of Stripe users globally. We're responsible for product experiences that help providers integrate these payment methods to improve their integration, boost their conversion, and grow their business.
3. Optimized Checkout & Link: The Optimized Checkout and Link teams focus on building best-in-class checkout experiences that provide delightful checkout experiences for customers, while driving higher purchase conversion for merchants. As an organization, we work on Checkout, Payment Links, Elements, and Link.
4. Risk: Risk Engineering develops products that reduce Stripe's financial and regulatory risk at scale while maintaining an excellent user experience. We ensure user compliance with regulatory and partner requirements, protecting both Stripe's brand and financial stability - by building both user-facing products and backend systems.
5. Terminal: Stripe Terminal helps our users extend their online presence to the physical world. The Terminal team’s mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as the Stripe API has done for online payments. With Terminal, businesses can unlock in-person payments use cases that are right for their business model—whether it’s creating a superb retail experience, extending their website to a pop-up store, or enabling a mobile point-of-sale at their next event.

What you’ll do

You will work on projects that span technologies, systems, and processes where you will design, build, test, and ship great code every day.

Responsibilities

1. Build a great customer experience for internal teams and Stripe users using our infrastructure.
2. Scope and lead medium to large technical projects that align with Stripe’s broad strategic initiatives.
3. Develop and execute against both short- and long-term roadmaps, making effective technical trade-offs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
4. Deliver value through a strong collaborative approach with customers and cross-functional stakeholders across Stripe.
5. Debug production issues across services and several levels of the stack.

1. Strong software engineering skills and a passion for one of the areas above.
2. 2+ years of professional hands-on experience in designing and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
3. Strong collaboration skills, can work across workstreams within your team and contribute to your peers’ success.
4. Customer obsession, ability to articulate and represent customer experience in various forums to drive the right outcome.
5. Ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy, responsibility, and think of yourself as entrepreneurial.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Ability to write high quality code (in programming languages like Go, Java, C/C++ etc).
2. Experience optimizing the end-to-end performance of distributed systems.
3. Focus on the needs of our users, both internal and external.
4. Holds yourself and others to a high bar when working with production.

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is C$135,200 - C$258,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
