Job summary

Mission.dev is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and scale backend services and cloud infrastructure powering its AI-driven risk intelligence platform. You will build reliable APIs, optimize data processing workflows, and leverage AWS to support production workloads, collaborating with peers to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.

You bring 5+ years in backend development, strong Python experience, SQL and NoSQL familiarity, and hands-on AWS know-how.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong experience building production backend services and APIs.
• Hands-on AWS experience across compute, storage, databases, networking, IAM, and monitoring.
• Solid SQL skills; NoSQL familiarity is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python for backend development and data processing.
• Experience with deployment practices and production troubleshooting.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help build and scale the backend systems and cloud infrastructure powering a high-growth risk intelligence platform. You'll focus on developing reliable, scalable backend services, optimizing data processing workflows, and leveraging AWS to support production workloads.

You'll collaborate with the engineering team to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability while contributing to the evolution of an AI-driven product. Familiarity with web scraping is beneficial, but extensive prior experience is not required.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.
• Strong experience building and maintaining production backend services and APIs.
• Hands-on AWS experience across services such as compute, storage, databases, networking, IAM, and monitoring.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable applications and optimizing system performance.
• Solid knowledge of SQL and database design; familiarity with NoSQL databases is beneficial.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, deployment practices, and production troubleshooting.
• Ability to work collaboratively and take ownership of technical challenges.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with Python, particularly for backend development and data processing.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with web scraping or web crawling, using tools such as Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, Playwright, or Selenium.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to production web scraping systems.
• Exposure to AI/ML integrations, NLP pipelines, or data-intensive applications.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, or other DevOps practices.
• Experience in RegTech, FinTech, or AI-focused startups.
• Annual salary between $120,000 and $150,000 CAD (or local market equivalent).
• Flexible hybrid in Montreal or remote work options.
• Working hours compatible with Eastern Time (ET).
