Work Hours: 35 hours per week, Sunday – Wednesday 9PM-6AM (3 hours meeting on Tuesday once a month)

Salary: $52,348 annually (Level 6), plus comprehensive benefits

The Overnight Housing Support Worker (HSW) is responsible for supporting tenancy through eviction prevention activities in a complex permanent housing environment, developing and implementing community safety initiatives, and offering a range of services and supports to tenants through a trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppression (AOP) lens that meets the wellness needs of the tenant community.

This role, with in-depth knowledge in trauma supports, performs functions to support the health, safety, social, and mental well-being of tenants onsite, and facilitates the overall effective operation of the building during overnights, in partnership with security personnel. The HSW acts as a resource to staff and tenants, providing mental health and addiction supports, monitoring activities, assessing crises, maintaining common areas, and supervising the property.

ABOUT YWCA TORONTO – HOUSING SUPPORT PROGRAM, CHURCH STREET

The facility includes 120 units of permanent housing. The Case Worker provides case management support to women and gender diverse individuals, including those with complex mental health issues, experiencing homelessness or at risk, transitioning from institutions, or Indigenous women/two-spirit people. The program aims for housing stabilization, harm reduction, and health promotion, helping tenants build skills to address barriers and maintain housing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uses eviction prevention measures to help tenants maintain their tenancy obligations.
  • Provides crisis prevention, intervention, and counseling to support well-being.
  • Monitors and updates on tenants’ health and well-being.
  • Models conflict resolution and mediation skills for tenants.
  • Offers case management follow-up, supports, and referrals in health, harm reduction, counseling, income, and food security.
  • Conducts health and safety assessments and identifies tenant issues/resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant legislation and effective support strategies.
  • Applies trauma-informed practices, staying current and acting as a resource during overnight shifts.
  • Participates in community development and capacity building with marginalized communities.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of program and support initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent; cases considered.
  • 1-3 years experience in housing/shelter settings with diverse populations.
  • Excellent crisis intervention and conflict mediation skills.
  • Experience in group facilitation and leadership development.
  • Supportive, client-centered, strengths-based approach.
  • KKnowing harm reduction principles, community resources, relevant legislation.
  • Culturally sensitive service delivery skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication skills.
  • Understanding of anti-oppression, trauma-informed, harm reduction, feminist frameworks.
