Casual Educational Assistants (EAs)

Are you interested in working with children who require the support of an Educational Assistant?

You must include three work related references with your application including a current phone number and email address if possible. Your references can be a current or previous supervisor from your last position or your supervisor from a practicum or volunteer position.

Casual Educational Assistants (EAs) are required on an “as needed” basis to work at various schools and at various grade levels. Casual EAs are required to demonstrate:

  • understanding of the role and responsibility of an EA
  • knowledge of the stages of child/youth development
  • an awareness of, respect, sensitivity, and awareness of similarities/differences for children with special needs
  • knowledge of health, hygiene and safety including personal/physical care and the safe transfer of students
  • understanding of behaviour management
  • knowledge of basic computer applications and technology
  • awareness of assistive technology
  • ability to work collaboratively with members of a team
  • ability to follow instructions of teachers and school administrators

The qualifications of a casual EA include:

  • post-secondary training in human services or a related field is preferred
  • ability to physically perform the requirements of the position
  • a desire to work with children and youth
  • respect for confidentiality and privacy protocols
  • sensitivity and respect for diversity
