The AVP, Model Risk supports the VP, Quantitative Risk through reviewing, challenging and catalyzing improvements to the management of risk within Aviva Canada.
The Quantitative Risk team is part of the Risk Function that is responsible for embedding a robust Risk Management Framework with Aviva Canada and providing leaders with Risk’s independent insight, challenge and opinion on key business decisions and the aggregate risk profile. The Quantitative Risk Team provides specialist technical insights and analysis, focusing on financial, insurance and model risks. In collaboration with the other Risk teams, it supports the CRO in ensuring that Aviva Canada operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance, and oversight arrangements are in place to effectively manage the risks to achievement of Aviva Canada’s objectives. It is also responsible for the independent validation of the internal model in collaboration with the Group Model Validation Center of Excellence.

What you’ll do:Working with the VP, Quantitative Risk and AVP, IMIV and Financial Risk, assist in the effective management of key risks and embedding of risk culture in relation to financial, insurance and model risks
Review and challenge the model governance of the material models (excluding economic capital). Coordinate independent validation activities and perform or review independent validation assignments.
Support local oversight of End-User Computing (EUC). Coordinate testing of material and complex EUC and perform or review testing.
Support business partners in reviewing and challenging pricing risks on new products, material portfolio transfers, and deals.
Perform deep dives of insurance risk management controls.
Contribute to the risk reviews of business plan and other local or global initiatives.
Support the Compliance team with analysis on pricing implications for regulated products.
Support the identification and assessment of emerging risks and support business leaders in identifying appropriate management and mitigation of emerging exposures.
Support AVP, IMIV and Financial Risk in the validation of the economic capital model
Help craft Enterprise Risk Management debate and action through proactively engaging senior collaborators
Support a continuous improvement culture where lessons learned are shared across the risk function locally and globally.
Work with colleagues across the business to share risk knowledge and expertise which supports business needs, developing an environment of 'no surprises' through open and clear two-way communication.
Represent the Risk team on management committees
Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent.
Actuarial Fellowship designation
Strong actuarial background / significant experience within actuarial role in insurance industry or equivalent.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Experience in building complex actuarial models, including Data Science models.
Solid negotiation and relationship building skills.
Demonstrated ability (10 years) in property/casualty insurance industry with increasingly responsible professional experience.
