How does the role impact the organization?

The AVP, Financial Planning Specialist is a senior member of our Total Wealth Solutions team that is dedicated to delivering an elevated level of service to supporting our advisory teams and their client families. This role is ideal for someone who has significant experience working with HNW Canadian families, families with multi-jurisdiction considerations, and clients who are experiencing a large monetization/other transfer event. As well, this role will have selected oversight responsibilities for all planning team members with respect to planning and thought leadership functions.

What will your role be responsible for?
  • Prepares, analyzes and presents comprehensive planning deliverables and technical planning communications for HNW clients.
  • Collaborates with Total Wealth Solutions business units (Tax Consulting, Insurance Solutions, Estate & Trust Solutions, and Charitable Giving) to position comprehensive planning deliverables and technical planning communications to meet client specific needs.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and champion for financial planning as a key deliverable for Total Wealth Solutions.
  • Promotes and encourages Financial Advisors to incorporate financial planning into their practice.
  • Provides ongoing professional financial planning advice on complex strategies.
  • Prepares and facilitates the development of thought leadership, presentations, and seminars on various financial planning topics.
  • Remains current on all Financial Planning related topics.
  • Identifies opportunities to deepen relationships and drive business results.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with internal advisory teams and Centers of Influence.
  • Participates actively in team learning and development activities to meet team performance goals.

Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian financial planning, and its key concepts.
  • U.S. financial planning background is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in French is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of all Canadian investment solution structures and accounts, and their respective income tax and succession law considerations.
  • Exceptional etiquette and client service skills including experience in face-to-face, videoconferencing, and telephone scenarios. Potential scenarios include:
  • Identifying client opportunities and providing potential solutions to client challenges throughout the planning process that align with goals-based planning.
  • Demonstrating sound judgement and collaboration.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills, including the ability to:
  • Juggle competing deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Professionalism and discretion in the handling of client private, confidential information and collaborating with their other professional advisors (tax and legal).
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
  • University degree with a focus on business and/or finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of practical, client-facing experience as a financial planner in the wealth management industry.
Additional accreditation (desired)
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP)
  • Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) and/or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
  • JD, or LL.M
  • Canadian Securities Course
Travel
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc)

$130,000-145,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
