Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President, Consumer and Business Cards, Product and Customer Engagement, Canadian Credit Cards, Canadian Personal Banking, the Associate Vice President, Credit Risk & Loss Mitigation - Unsecured Lending, Canadian Personal Banking is responsible to:

• Own the Credit Risk Policy, standards, and underwriter guidelines for the Cards and Personal Lending businesses – 1A function

• Manage credit risk through the economic cycle, including performance monitoring and adapting credit strategies and policies to the macroeconomic conditions

• Identify and drive execution of opportunities to improve adjudication strategies for acquisitions and credit line management to drive profitable business growth within risk appetite, improve customer experience, and manage credit losses

• Identify and drive execution of opportunities to improve portfolio management actions (authorizations, reissues, credit limit decreases, inactive exposure management etc.)

• Work with Retail Risk Management to propose and gain alignment for changes; draft Group Risk Management credit submission proposals to 2A credit risk team for approval

• Ensure a solid understanding of the Unsecured Lending businesses and associated channels to ensure credit decisions meet both the business objectives and are inline with the Bank's risk appetite

• Work closely with Journeys and platform teams to operationalize approved strategies and policy changes

• Own forecasting and management of manual underwriting volumes

• Oversee Fraud and Customer Assistance internal partnerships to ensure strategies are effective for the business

• Support the Cards Product Head and Executive journey Owners in planning and strategizing for business objectives

• Support Regulatory exams pertaining to credit risk

• Approve credit policy and strategy changes in conjunction with 2A Retail Risk Management team

• Balance growth against credit quality within our risk appetite in conjunction with product and channel teams

• Engage with relevant Journey and platform partners to drive and assist in delivery of relevant credit strategy projects

• Operate unsecured lending businesses within the bank’s risk appetite

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field; Masters degree or equivalent is preferred. Relevant certifications (FRM, CFA, CPA, CRM) are assets

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in experience in financial services, with a strong focus on credit risk, loan portfolio management or loss mitigation

• Subject matter expertise in credit risk assessment and strategy development with a Risk Adjusted Return lens

• Experience managing and growing lending product portfolios

• Proficiency in loss forecasting, provisioning methodologies, and risk segmentation

• Experience with early warning systems and portfolio risk analytics

• Strong data interpretation and risk reporting skills

• Ability to evaluate and enhance credit scoring models and risk appetite frameworks

• Deep understanding of banking regulations and experience working with internal audit, compliance, and external regulatory reviews

• Ability to drive policy development and credit risk governance

• Capable of influencing executive stakeholders and guiding risk appetite decisions

• Ability to navigate and influence within a matrixed organization.

• Extensive industry, external / internal, enterprise knowledge, recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and; identifying operational efficiencies and opportunities with other business management / enterprise areas

• Strong thought leadership with track record of driving results

• Proven ability in leveraging deep subject matter expertise to develop and deploy a vision and align others to that vision.

• Proven ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of professionals

• Strong people management skills with demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams

• Highly effective communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees

• Expert presentation and facilitation skills and expert interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate working with senior management at all levels
