Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Harness Design Engineer to join the Mk1 Vehicle Electrical Harness Design team within the Lunar Permanence unit. You will develop wiring interconnect diagrams, harness assembly and installation drawings, and support hardware installation and testing.

The role requires a BS in a technical field, 3+ years in aerospace harness design, and proficiency with Creo, Zuken, Windchill or equivalent CAD tools.

Qualifications

  • BS in a technical field as listed; aerospace or related area.
  • 3+ years designing wire harnesses for aerospace.
  • Familiar with high-end CAD routing software (Creo, Zuken, Windchill or NX/Catia).
  • Understanding derating analysis and applicable harness standards.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical design and 3D CAD skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical harnesses for power, RF, data and signal.
  • Select harness components and hardware; create wiring diagrams.
  • Create 3D routed harness data files; harness installation drawings.
  • Support hardware installation and testing; report on status.
  • Identify opportunities for technical improvements.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for a large portion of the electrical and mechanical harness design on the Mk1 Vehicle Electrical Harness Design team. In this role, you will develop wiring interconnect diagrams (WID), harness assembly drawings, and harness installation drawings. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design of electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication and high-speed data signal
  • Selection of harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable and wire
  • Create Wiring diagrams utilizing Zuken E3
  • Create 3D routed harness data files utilizing Creo (Pro/Engineer) Cabling
  • Create harness detail and installation drawings including 2D flat harness drawings from the 3D harness data sets
  • Design and integration of harness support brackets
  • Support design configuration development and trade studies
  • Provide technical guidance for hardware installation
  • Support the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses
  • Report on activity schedule and technical status
  • Identify opportunities for technical improvements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • 3+ years of experience designing Wire Harnesses for the Aerospace industry
  • Familiarity with Creo, Zuken or Windchill or experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical or Catia
  • Understanding and application of wire derating analysis
  • Familiar with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
  • Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Creo, Zuken and Windchill
  • Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes
  • Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems
  • Experience with dfx concepts
  • Experience with GD&T and ASME drawing practices

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35CO applicants is $90,934.00 - $127,307.25WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
