Job description

Client designs and produces leading technology electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. Their focus is on delivering innovative cockpit systems integration and avionics solutions to its customers worldwide. Its principal locations are in Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; and Chicago, Illinois. Client is a wholly owned subsidiary of a specialized aerospace and defense company headquartered in US, listed in NYSE

Scope of Position

Reporting directly to the Director, Aviation Products, the Product Manager, Aviation Products is responsible for the marketing of existing products as well as defining and launching new products.

Position location and travel

This position is located at the company’s corporate headquarters in Ottawa. The Product Manager regularly travels internationally to visit customers, partners, prospects and industry events.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Market definition, assessment and competitive landscape analysis
  • Technology assessment
  • Development and maintenance of product roadmaps
  • Development and maintenance of technology roadmaps
  • Development and maintenance of product marketing plans
  • Definition of new products and development of the associated business case
  • Definition of new features/enhancements for existing products and development of the associated business case
  • Preparation of proposals for both new and existing products
  • Definition of product pricing strategy in collaboration with sales and program management
  • Development of product collateral and sales tools to support sales activity
  • Conduct win/loss analysis
  • Provide training to the sales channel
  • Provide product specific support to the sales channel through coordination with engineering and program management
  • Meet with customers and partner companies on a regular basis, developing excellent working relationships while managing the scope of all Client activities
  • Prepare various internal reports/forecasts on a monthly basis and brief senior management as required
  • Prepare various external reports for customers on a periodic basis
  • Provide regular forecasts to manufacturing synthesized from data collected from multiple sources including contracts, sales, programs and customers
  • Regular travel to customer and partner company sites

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Engineering degree or equivalent, ideally combined with a business degree
  • 10+ years of experience in an engineering/business role in the aviation/avionics industry with at least 3+ years of product management experience
  • Experience defining products, developing business cases, and supervising engineering teams
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • In depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications in particular Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience negotiating and managing contracts
  • Experience with RF, optics, or infrared imaging and/or in a COTS product environment is an asset
