Job summary

Shopify is seeking an AV Technician in Toronto to architect and maintain the audio visual systems powering our office and events. You will implement critical infrastructure across our Toronto Port and other Shopify spaces, develop internal tools, and integrate technology that keeps operations running smoothly.

You will support product launches and community events, perform routine hardware checks, and train teams to use systems effectively.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of AV standards and leading manufacturers.
• Experience with Q-Sys, Dante, AVoIP and digital signage.
• Strong skills in webcasting including RTMP/NDI/SRT.

Responsibilities

• Own, maintain and operate all AV systems in office and event spaces.
• Support product launches, merchant pop-ups and town halls.
• Conduct routine hardware checks and provide training.
• Operate AV and livestreaming for internal and external events.
• Regularly update and maintain systems; document solutions.
• Evaluate performance and implement improvements via feedback.
• Identify automation opportunities and retrofit equipment with integrators.
• Create clear documentation for AV solutions and on-site support 4–5 days/week.
• Collaborate with other Technical Services teams as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Own, maintain and operate all the AV systems in our office and event space. We have a mixture of meeting rooms, event space, livestream and collaboration facilities. We also dabble in Makerspace, robotics and experimental systems.
• Support product launches, merchant pop-ups, community talks and town halls.
• Conduct routine hardware checks and proactively respond to support requests and provide training to ensure our teams are equipped to use systems effectively.
• Operate AV and livestreaming system for internal and external facing events.
• Keep our systems running smoothly with regular updates and maintenance.
• Regularly evaluate system performance and usability, implementing improvements based on feedback and trend analysis.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, enhancing efficiency.
• Execute retrofits of equipment, developing plans and working with local integrators to install and commission new equipment.
• Create clear, comprehensive documentation for AV solutions to empower our teams.
• Drive impact in our physical environments by working on-site at our Toronto Port 4–5 days per week, providing the critical technical support that keeps our operations moving at the speed of commerce.
• Supporting other Technical services teams when required (Network, Security, Video teams etc).

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of industry standards, leading manufacturers, and emerging technologies. Working knowledge of Q-Sys, Dante, AVoIP, digital signage solutions and Avixa standards.
• Strong expertise in AV/network technologies and signal flows.
• Proven track record in webcasting and livestreaming, including RTMP, NDI, SRT protocols.
• An understanding of network protocols, services, standards, and their functionalities. Knowledge of how to deploy and troubleshoot AV on a network.
• Proficient with tools like Google Workspace to enhance collaboration and productivity.
• Willingness to travel to other Shopify spaces in North America and abroad as needed (10% of the time).
• Skilled in working both on-site and remotely.
