The City of Abbotsford’s Building Permits & Licences Department is seeking a self-motivated professional to join their team as an Auxiliary Building Inspector on a temporary basis.
The Building Inspector is a technical and regulatory position which focuses on the inspections of various building types under the BC Building Code.
The incumbent will be required to conduct reviews of building construction to assess compliance with local bylaws and provincial construction regulations, including the BC Building Code. The incumbent works under minimal supervision and exercises independent judgement in technical aspects of the work, discussing difficult challenges and policy matters with a supervisor or Manager. The work entails extensive contact, liaising and technical guidance to a variety of internal and external customers.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This position is unionized, CUPE Local, and the hourly rate of pay is from $42.46 to $55.15.
The City of Abbotsford has committed to systematically promoting building officials as they obtain higher levels of certification. The systematic promotion of building officials means that when you successfully achieve Building Level 2 Certification from the Building Officials’ Association of BC (BOABC), you will be promoted to the position of Building Inspector II. When you have successfully obtained your Building Level 3 Certification and Registered Building Official (RBO) designation, you will be promoted in position to Building Official III.
