Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in open pit mining, dispatch, or autonomous operations.
• Exposure to Dispatcher, Autonomous Controller or Air Traffic Control role is preferred.
• Formal education in air traffic control, robotics, or autonomous systems considered an asset.

Autonomous System Command Controller

The Autonomous System Command Controller, also known as the Command Operator, is responsible for in shift performance, of the Autonomous Haulage fleet. The Command Controller manages the safe and successful operation of MineStar Command for hauling and the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) fleet by working in collaboration with the mine operations team to achieve the production goals of the shift.

The Command Controller will oversee the execution and optimization of the plan, through the utilization of information available to them, to direct the operation and ensure the fleet delivers the plan in the most effective and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Autonomous haulage operational efficiency.

• Deliver the production schedule in accordance with the integrated plan through correct AHS assignments.
• Work with team members in the field to reduce variance and exploit opportunities.
• Monitor compliance with control operational benchmarks and identifies operational variations and opportunities.
• Investigate root cause for production short falls and deviations from plan.
• Maximize equipment productivity and efficiency by the accurate and timely reporting of maintenance issues.
• Evaluate the data accuracy and integrity in the system.
• Interact with the system to monitor and record operation of equipment statuses.
• Monitor and action information provided by tire management systems, weather applications and monitor the maintenance status applications.
• Act as liaison in communication between the office and the field.
• Ensure date integrity is maintained.
• Understand the correct procedures in case of critical failures in the system and associated applications.
• Minimize shift delays and normal maintenance delays (fueling, tire re-torques etc.).

Area 2:

Operational excellence.

• Seek opportunities to improve field haul fleet operations.
• Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
• Continually seek to improve your skills as an Autonomous System Command Controller.
• Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
• Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
• Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
• Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).

Area 3:

Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

• Provides leadership and direction to the various equipment operators and stakeholders to ensure that the business and mine plan objectives are met.
• Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
• Mentor and train new team members.
• Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
• Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
• Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
• Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• College diplomas or university degrees in a related field such as air traffic control, robotics, or autonomous systems is considered an asset.

Work Experience – Nature & Length

• 5 or more years of experience in an open pit mining environment, dispatch, air traffic control or autonomous operations environment.
• Previous exposure to Disaptcher, Autonomous Controller or Air Traffic Control role will be highly regarded, but not essential.

Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements

• Advanced computer literacy.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Sound knowledge of open pit mining fundamentals and autonomous mining operations.
