Autonomous Hardware and Radio Technician
The Autonomous Hardware / Radio Technician is responsible for the reliable operation of the hardware and radio systems that support the autonomous haulage and drill fleet. The Autonomous Hardware/Radio Technician ensures safe, effective and timely implementation, configuration and maintenance of the operational mining technology network and wireless communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Area 1: Autonomous hardware and radio operational efficiency.
- Install, maintain and repair wired and wireless communications equipment related to autonomous haulage and drill equipment.
- Install and maintain VHF/UHF communications and mobile fleet management system hardware and software.
- Install and commission High Precision Machine Guidance Systems and Fleet Management Systems and point to point microwave and WiFi mesh systems and associated applications.
- Preventative maintenance through regular inspections to ensure equipment meets safe working requirements.
- Assist with mining databases and reporting.
- Maintain communication and Fleet Management System parts inventory.
- Area 2: Operational excellence.
- Seek opportunities to improve field haul fleet operations.
- Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
- Continually seek to improve your skills as an Autonomous System Command Builder.
- Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
- Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
- Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).
- Area 3: Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.
- Form close working relationships with Mine Operators, Supervisor and Control teams to drive efficiency of the Autonomous Haulage fleet.
- Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
- Mentor and train new team members.
- Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
- Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
- Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
- Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- College diplomas or university degrees in a related field such as electrical, OT, autonomous systems technology is considered an asset.
Work Experience – Nature & Length
- 5 or more years of experience as an electrician or 5 or more years of experience supporting communications infrastructure (Ethernet, fiber-optic, radio, microwave, wireless).
- Experience with Fleet Management Systems, Autonomous Mining Systems, High Precision Machine Guidance, Cisco Wi-Fi and LTE Radio Systems is considered an asset.
- Experience installing, maintaining and fault finding radio communications equipment and Fleet Management Systems is considered an asset.
- Mining experience may be considered an asset, but is not required.
Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements
- Highly organized and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- An aptitude for learning technical material and are detail-oriented.
- Understanding of Microwave PTP, PTMP based radio and antennae systems.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work individually and successfully within a team.
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and Technical Specifications.
