Job description

The Autonomic Lab Neurodiagnostic technologist facilitates a battery of tests to measure the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. The technologist will measure the heart rate and blood pressure of the patient, who will be exposed to various stimuli controlled by the technologist, such as deep breathing, active standing, and passive head-up tilting on a tilt-table. Additionally, the technologist will perform a sympathetic skin response test to evaluate and record the galvanic response from the skin. Responsibilities include preparing the patient for autonomic testing, explaining procedures, and organizing data into reports upon completion.

  1. Correctly place EKG leads and electrodes to acquire diagnostically accurate EKG.
  2. Prepare patients for testing and explain each autonomic test component, ensuring understanding of what to expect, how to communicate during the test, and the reason for the test.
  3. Set up the patient room with all necessary equipment before testing.
  4. Perform autonomic tests and record observations in real time.
  5. Assist in maintaining proper scheduling in collaboration with the scheduling department.
  6. Provide patients with pre-appointment paperwork and address questions prior to the visit.
  7. Maintain supply levels and order additional testing supplies as needed.
  8. Enter test result data accurately and efficiently.
  9. Coordinate with the front desk and scheduling department to ensure insurance coverage prior to visits.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Department Director.

Qualifications include ABRET certification (must obtain within 1 year of hire), prior experience preferred, associate's degree preferred, ability to perform accurate EKG tracings, excellent patient interaction skills, ability to recognize life-threatening arrhythmias and EKG artifacts, and the capability to measure blood pressures and enter data quickly and accurately. Massachusetts license is not required.
