Job description

There are automotive shops where a technician spends most of the day moving through the same narrow range of jobs. This isn’t one of them. Our client is an established Burlington automotive service business handling everything from routine maintenance and diagnostics through brakes, suspension, steering, transmission work, electrical concerns, HVAC and more.

That variety makes this a good environment for an experienced technician who actually enjoys diagnosing vehicles and figuring out what is going on rather than simply replacing whatever part appears on a work order.

Quality matters here. So does doing the diagnosis properly, communicating clearly with the people around you and sending vehicles back to customers knowing the work has been done well.

Compensation
  • $38 to $40 per hour
  • Monday to Friday
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • No regularly scheduled evenings or weekends
  • On-site parking

For an experienced automotive technician who has had enough of schedules that consume evenings or Saturdays, the working hours alone make this one worth a closer look.

*The stated compensation range reflects the full scope of the role as currently structured and is provided in accordance with pay transparency requirements. Offers are determined based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, internal equity, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates who fully meet all requirements and qualifications outlined in this posting and the official job description.

The Opportunity

One of the biggest attractions of this role may be something increasingly difficult to find in the automotive trade.

Monday to Friday. Days. The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., leaving evenings and weekends to you.

Add an hourly rate of $38 to $40, healthcare, dental and vision coverage, and you have a strong opportunity for an experienced 310S technician who wants good automotive work without giving up the rest of the week to do it.

You’ll be joining an established shop where the work is varied enough to keep your diagnostic and mechanical skills sharp. One vehicle may need straightforward preventative maintenance; the next could require you to work through a drivability problem, electrical fault, brake issue or suspension concern.

For someone with at least five years behind them who is comfortable taking a vehicle from initial complaint through diagnosis, repair and final verification, there should be plenty here to keep the work interesting.

Position Description

You’ll be responsible for diagnosing, servicing and repairing cars and light-duty vehicles across a broad range of systems.

Your day-to-day work may include:
  • Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle concerns.
  • Using scan tools and diagnostic equipment to identify faults accurately.
  • Performing scheduled and preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnosing engine performance and drivability problems.
  • Servicing and repairing brakes and ABS systems.
  • Repairing steering and suspension components.
  • Completing transmission and drivetrain service and repairs.
  • Diagnosing charging, starting, ignition and electrical system concerns.
  • Working on cooling, heating and automotive HVAC systems.
  • Inspecting vehicles and identifying worn, unsafe or failing components.
  • Reviewing technical information and manufacturer repair procedures before completing repairs.
  • Verifying that repairs have corrected the original concern.
  • Recording findings and completed work clearly and accurately.
  • Working with service staff and fellow technicians to keep jobs moving through the shop.
  • Looking after your work area, tools and equipment and maintaining a safe shop environment.
Experience

We’re looking for someone who has already spent enough time in the trade to be comfortable tackling problems without needing every step mapped out for them.

Ideally, you’ll bring:
  • At least 5 years of hands-on automotive service and repair experience.
  • Broad experience working on cars and light-duty vehicles.
  • Strong diagnostic experience, including problems that require more than simply reading a fault code.
  • Hands‑on experience with brakes, steering and suspension.
  • Experience diagnosing engine performance and drivability problems.Solid familiarity with automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Experience performing scheduled maintenance and general mechanical repairs.
  • Confidence using scan tools and computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • The ability to work from wiring diagrams, service information and repair procedures.
  • Experience carrying a repair through from initial diagnosis to completed and verified work.
Qualifications

The strongest fit will be a technician who combines good mechanical ability with good judgment.

You should have:
  • A valid Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic instincts.
  • A good working knowledge of modern automotive mechanical and electronic systems.
  • The ability to distinguish between a symptom and the actual cause of a problem.

  • Familiarity with current automotive diagnostic tools and shop equipment.
  • Good workmanship habits and close attention to detail.
  • The ability to organize your work and keep repairs moving without sacrificing quality.
  • A dependable, professional approach to your work.
