Aviva AutoCare Centre in Mississauga is seeking an Automotive Paint Prep Technician (Prepper) to prepare surfaces, operate paint systems, and support body technicians for high-quality refinishing. You will handle sanding, masking, and surface prep, ensuring primer and paint readiness in a fast-paced shop environment.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in collision repair, knowledge of refinishing practices, and a detail-oriented approach.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years experience in collision repair, preferably in the Paint department
• Knowledge of automotive refinishing and repair practices and procedures
• Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, professional work
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Preparing repaired surfaces for primer, paint, and finishing
• Work closely with painters and body technicians to ensure high-quality prep
• Clean, degrease, and inspect surfaces for primer and paint
• Perform sanding, masking, feather edging, and surface prep on repaired panels
• Apply primers and sealers as directed by paint, shop or OE processes
• Mask and protect areas of the vehicle not to be painted
• Operate spray guns with proper paint flow and coating thickness
• Operate automated body paint systems for various vehicles
• Monitor painting operations to identify flaws and correct causes
• Assist in developing new paint processes and procedures
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, PPE use and safety procedures

We are looking for a dedicated Automotive Paint Prep Technician (Prepper) to be an integral part of the daily operations at our Aviva AutoCare Centre located in Mississauga. You will be responsible for the proper preparation of auto vehicles prior to application of refinish coatings. You will operate paint machines and tools, and will use the specified paint mixes, primers and sealers in accordance with automotive engineering specifications, painting procedures and standards. The Paint Prep Technician may have an advanced skill set including light body repairs and paint refinishing (Paint Technician). Does this sound like an exciting challenge? What You’ll Do:

• Preparing repaired surfaces for primer, paint, and finishing
• Work closely with painters and body technicians to ensure all vehicles are prepped to a high-quality standard
• Clean, degrease, and inspect surfaces to ensure they are ready for primer and paint
• Perform sanding, masking, feather edging, and surface preparation on repaired panels
• Apply primers and sealers as directed the paint, shop or OE processes
• Mask and protect areas of the vehicle that should not be painted
• Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
• Operate automated body paint systems for various types of vehicles
• Ensure the painting processes adopted are performed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible
• Assist in the development of new paint processes and procedures
• Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters and streaks, and correct their causes
• Ensure repairs flow through the workshop and identify issues that result in failure
• Be an active team member who encourages a collaborative working environment focusing on the customer and what matters to them
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of materials
• Promote Aviva AutoCare Centre values and goals

What You’ll Bring:

• 1-2 years experience of working within the collision repair industry, preferably in the Paint department
• Knowledge of automotive refinishing and repair practices and procedures
• Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, professional work
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Basic experience with sanding tools, masking materials, and automotive refinishing products (preferred but not required; training provided)
• Demonstrates adaptability and openness to change with a proactive mindset in embracing new work practices and technologies
• Commitment to an environment of continuous improvement
• Ability to take direction and perform well under pressure
• Strong awareness of safety practices and procedures

What You’ll get:

• The salary band for this position ranges from $60,000 to $90,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
