Job summary

Somerville Auto Group in Burnaby, BC is seeking an Automotive Apprentice Technician to support diagnostics, repairs and vehicle inspections in a fast-paced service environment. You will gain comprehensive hands-on training from Day One, work closely with the service team, and develop skills across gasoline, diesel and propane systems while building customer trust.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years fleet/auto/truck maintenance experience.
  • Complete set of hand tools including metric sizes.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, estimates, repairs and outfitting.
  • Review repair orders with Service Advisors and explain needed maintenance to customers.
  • Coordinate with management, advisors, installers and parts to ensure smooth communication during repairs.
  • Provide quality workmanship meeting industry standards and adhere to flat-rate time allowances.
  • Report unsafe vehicles to management and owner.

Job description

The Automotive Apprentice Technician works in a fast-paced auto service environment, providing superior expertise to customers and the automotive team in automotive systems, diagnostics, and repairs. Communication skills are essential to succeed in this position. The Automotive Technician builds customer loyalty and retention through trust, workmanship and reputation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -
  • 3+ years Fleet, automotive, or truck vehicle maintenance experience
  • Working knowledge of the use and operation of all service garage equipment and testing equipment, gauges and tools normally associated with troubleshooting and repair of gasoline, diesel, and propane equipment.
  • Possession of a complete set of hand tools including metric sizes (Okay if just starting out)
  • Must have the ability to lift 70 lbs. and maneuver any package weighing up to 150 lbs. with appropriate equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License required;
Main Responsibilities and Tasks -
  • Performs accurate and complete vehicle inspections, diagnostics, estimates, repairs and outfitting.
  • Completes and reviews repair orders and vehicle inspection reports with Service Advisors and explains any additional maintenance work required to customers in an effort to attain a trusting relationship and long-term retention.
  • Liaises with Management/Service Advisors/Installers and Back Parts Window Associate to ensure a smooth flow of communication during repairs or maintenance work and that all commitments are achieved.
  • Provides quality workmanship to meet or exceed industry standards and performs tasks in compliance with industry flat rate time allowances.
  • Ensures that an unsafe vehicle is reported to management and the vehicle owner.
  • Ensures vehicles are kept clean and free of damage by using seat covers and floor mats.
  • Performs daily bay inspections in order to ensure shop neatness/cleanliness.
  • Remains current with up-to-date knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of most domestic and imported vehicles.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions -
  • Standing/walking for 8 hours.
  • Lifting and/or carrying of merchandise items, as required, on a regular, frequent and unassisted basis. Merchandise items may vary in weight from "light" to "heavy".
