Overview:

Pembina's Transmission Business Unit (TBU) is hiring a technically skilled Technologist or Engineer, Automation, to support and improve pipeline control systems. This role suits someone with deep automation and controls expertise, who thrives in a dynamic environment and values continuous learning. You will collaborate across disciplines to ensure system integrity, foster innovation, and maintain operational excellence.

The Transmission Pipelines Business Unit has developed through strategic acquisitions in key natural gas, ethane, and condensate transportation infrastructure in prolific gas-producing regions of Western Canada and the U.S. Our pipelines provide customers access to premium markets mainly through long-term fee-for-service contracts.

This role may be based in Calgary, Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park, or Drayton Valley, Alberta. The successful candidate must reside within 100km of the reporting location.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To learn more, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Provide expert support to maintain and optimize control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI);
  • Lead automation improvement projects focusing on reliability and alarm management;
  • Support daily pipeline operations and troubleshoot complex control issues;
  • Represent operations during design reviews, commissioning, and startup phases of new projects;
  • Collaborate with EPC firms and internal teams to ensure standards are met;
  • Participate in HAZOPs, FAT/SATs, and project planning;
  • Estimate labor and capital costs for control system projects;
  • Manage software versions, server infrastructure, and MOC scope changes;
  • Contribute to standardization across automation, controls, SCADA, IT, and OT systems;
  • Support development and adoption of new control standards and best practices;
  • Promote an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or Journeyperson certification in Instrumentation or Electrical;
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in control systems, including PLC programming and system integration;
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation (P&IDs, loop sheets, control narratives, logic diagrams);
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols and server management is an asset;
  • Demonstrated learning agility—quick adaptation, technology absorption, and continuous improvement;
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and requires Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing, including testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also need to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard allows eligible employees to work remotely on Fridays.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the country of the position. Final candidates will undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks, including a Criminal Record Check.
