Purpose
Automation Technicians will support Project Managers and System Engineers by creating, installing, and commissioning PLC / HMI / SCADA based systems, as well as handling network and device integration work.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Complete start-up and commissioning of new PLC / HMI / SCADA control systems, perform service and maintenance of existing installations, diagnose faults, repair hardware, and implement programming bug fixes and alterations on customer sites.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues on job sites and report findings to Project Management or Operations Leaders via email, SharePoint, OneDrive, or other repositories.
- Participate in project kickoff and turnover meetings to understand project scope and finalize documentation.
- Organize and maintain control submittal project redlines and submit to design engineers for as-built drawing packages.
- Collaborate with other technicians to develop and share technical solutions.
- Participate in technician training to stay current on new products, tools, and integrations.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in Robotics, Automation, Technology, or a related field, or 3-5 years of experience with PLC / HMI control systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Engineering, or Manufacturing is preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in at least one PLC software (e.g., Rockwell Suite, Modicon Unity Pro, Mitsubishi).
- Proficiency in at least one HMI software (e.g., Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Wonderware InTouch).
- Knowledge of SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Factory Talk View SE).
- Familiarity with Windows Office applications, repositories (OneDrive, SharePoint, GIT), and database applications like Microsoft SQL.
- Understanding of network communication formats and hardware configurations.
- Knowledge of basic process controls and instrumentation.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to travel up to 25% for field work.
Environmental and Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds occasionally.
- Fieldwork involving standing, walking, and climbing stairs, often in various weather conditions.
