This role is part of the Engineering, Technology & Capital group (ETC), guiding our network towards successful delivery of mine automation initiatives.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Automation.

This role is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and is not available for remote work. It is based out of the Nutrien corporate office in Saskatoon. The role follows a 4-day workweek (10 hours per day), with an average of 2-3 day trips to site per week. Initially, for 12–18 months, the focus will be on industry-leading development at our Lanigan mine.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate, execute, and evaluate trials of emerging and cutting-edge technologies focused primarily on our Saskatoon area mines.
  • Support operations staff in the adaptation of emerging technologies.

Assist teams across the network in developing and executing projects to achieve strategic Mine Automation goals.

Provide technical and professional mentorship to engineers and technologists.

Collaborate with key resources to develop operational standards for automated systems across the network.

Drive collaboration and sharing of best practices across Nutrien’s potash mines.

Identify opportunities for automation to support immediate and long-term departmental goals.

Engage with operations, end users, engineers, and maintenance to optimize automated systems.

Analyze operational data and KPIs for continuous improvement.

Develop, document, test, and commission automation/control system projects.

Investigate, execute, and evaluate trials of new technologies.

What you will bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in an industrial environment, with expertise in automation/control systems design preferred.
  • A diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of soft rock mining and underground mobile equipment automation is a plus.
  • Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting control systems.
  • Experience in research, design, construction, and implementation of new technologies is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence is a plus.
  • Successful track record in automation project delivery.
