Automation Specialist - Saskatoon SK

This role is part of the Engineering Technology & Capital group (ETC). It is crucial in guiding our network towards successful mine automation initiatives.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager Automation and is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is not available for remote work and requires travel to sites as needed.

What you will do :

• Assist teams across the network in developing and executing projects to achieve strategic Mine Automation goals.
• Provide mentorship to engineers and technologists.
• Develop operational standards for automated systems.
• Promote collaboration and share best practices across Nutriens' potash mines.
• Identify opportunities for technology alignment supporting department goals.
• Engage with operations, engineers, and maintenance to optimize automated systems.
• Analyze operational data and KPIs for continuous improvement.
• Develop, test, and commission automation/control systems projects.
• Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies.

What you will bring :

• 10+ years of experience in an industrial environment, with expertise in automation/control systems preferred.
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of soft rock mining and underground mobile equipment automation is a plus.
• Control system programming skills (PLC, DCS, HMI, SCADA).
• Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting control systems.
• Experience in developing new technologies from research to implementation is an asset.
• Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence is a plus.
• Proven success in automation project delivery.
• Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
• Excellent communication skills.
