As an Automation Controls Technician, you will provide high-end, complex automation and controls support to plant operations.
Additionally, the Automation Controls Technician must identify, troubleshoot, and repair issues in 24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC electrical systems, perform new electrical installations, and possess knowledge in electrical, automation, process instrumentation, PLC, HMI, and VFDs. We seek a candidate with manufacturing experience, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work and products.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of complex controls/instrumentation operation, capabilities, & limitations.
- Skilled in troubleshooting controls and instrumentation on production and process equipment.
- Assist mechanics in identifying and correcting equipment problems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot production lines and batching/processing equipment.
- Read and interpret PLC code, wiring schematics, ladder diagrams, and P&ID process diagrams.
- Understand PLC, HMI, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, and industrial control systems, including advanced programming techniques.
- Troubleshoot industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, DH+, DeviceNet, and RIO.
- Test systems and equipment to diagnose malfunctions using voltmeters, process meters, network analyzers, and other testing devices.
- Maintain proficiency in automation and control systems.
- Understand calibration procedures for temperature, pressure, flow, and level instruments, along with process control troubleshooting.
- Adhere to GMPs, maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to optimize production efficiency.
- Follow all safety practices, rules, and company policies.
- Ensure safety of equipment and report safety issues promptly.
- Read and comply with SOPs and Safety Data Sheets.
- Use computers and software to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- Assist in project implementation as needed.
Qualifications and Additional Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Pass the Maintenance Automation Technician test.
- Minimum 3 years (5 preferred) hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLCs (PLC 5, SLC 500, RS Logix 5000) in manufacturing, including HMI, Servos, VFDs, electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Maintenance experience in hydraulics, controls, electrical, mechanical, welding, PLCs, and pneumatics.
- Ability to troubleshoot using diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
- Certification on training plan within 180 days of start date.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on multiple levels, and in extreme temperatures.
- Own tools as per the maintenance tool list.
- Knowledge of data networks, switches, routers, and servers is a plus.
- Flexible to work 12-hour shifts as needed.
- Proficient in computer software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under stress.
