Job Summary

The Automation Technician is responsible for delivering technical and electrical support for automation projects, including new installations, retrofits, migrations, and updates. The role involves troubleshooting, data analysis, documentation, and collaboration with engineering and plant staff.

Basic Function

Provide technical assistance with automation installations, updates, and specialized equipment rework. Troubleshoot electrical and electronic controls, gather and interpret data, and update electrical documentation using AutoCAD.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and support automation equipment installations for new products and launches.
  • Participate in projects, trials, and tests to optimize productivity and explore new business opportunities.
  • Work with PLC tools such as AB RS Logix 5 / 500 / 5000 for support and programming.
  • Update ladder logic programs and routines.
  • Collaborate with automation integrators and internal engineering for project implementation.
  • Manage critical spare parts sourcing.
  • Utilize software such as Windows Office, RS Logix, Panel Builder, Factory Talk, AutoCAD.
  • Configure and backup drive components like Siemens G-120, Simoreg, Emerson Quantum, and AB PowerFlex.
  • Analyze, test, troubleshoot, and monitor automated and electronic production components.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Monitor performance data to improve operational efficiency.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, recommend repairs, and maintain documentation.
  • Program and maintain robotic systems, ensuring backups and proper operation.
  • Design electrical systems and control panels, schematics, and I/O diagrams.
  • Assist with internal projects, support plant electricians, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Skills
  • 2-year Technician or 3-year Technologist diploma in a related field; Industrial Electrician 442A license is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in industrial controls and automation troubleshooting.
  • Experience with ABB & Fanuc robots is an asset.
