Base pay range

$95,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr

MMR Consulting is an engineering and consulting firm specializing in the pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. Its services include Automation, Engineering, Project Management, and Validation. MMR has offices in Canada, USA, and Asia.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join our growing team, where the successful candidate will work with a group of engineers and specialists involved in the engineering and project management of equipment, systems, and facilities for life sciences facilities. This role is based out of Toronto, ON, Canada. Some travel to client sites is expected.

This role is for a Junior Controls engineer to work on the automation of building/process controls systems.

Previous building/process controls experience in the processing industries is required (i.e., Nuclear / Chemical Processing / Food / Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Car Manufacturing, etc.). Pharmaceutical industry experience is a major asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical solutions into the design, commissioning, and start-up of automation systems, for upgrades, renovations, and expansions of client facilities and processes.
  • Support project execution from feasibility through to project completion/handover, including all project stages such as:

  • The ideal candidate has experience with Siemens APOGEE Series Controllers, Allen Bradley (Rockwell) PLC, and Ignition SCADA system, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Historians is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience with building/process controls in processing industries and utilities is required (e.g., chemical processing, utilities, mining, nuclear, life sciences, food, etc.), with pharmaceutical experience being a major asset.
  • Perform program editing/configuration on PLCs, work with redundant systems, and SCADA systems.
  • Review programming of equipment vendors and other automation firms.
  • Perform automation/electrical troubleshooting on electrical panels and control systems.
  • Travel may be occasionally required for meetings with clients, equipment fabrication vendors, or Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs).
  • Work may require occasional support over shutdowns or extended hours, especially during installation and commissioning/validation phases.
  • Manage client relationships, project scheduling/budgeting, coordinate resources, support business development, and present at industry conferences or publish papers.
  • Visit construction and installation sites.
  • Supervise contractors during critical installations of process equipment and utilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on workload and project needs.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and spoken English, including technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell-based systems, Panelview, and network authentication.
  • Manage automation scope with vendors and internal teams.
  • Minimum 5-10+ years of controls experience; flexible for intermediate or senior level candidates.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and PLC code.
  • Ability to program and configure controllers and SCADA systems.
  • Leadership skills and initiative to lead projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols like Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Bacnet is a plus.
  • Engineering degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Controls, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
