Your future role on our team

To pursue project and client development in the Sept-Îles region, BBA wants to bolster its local expertise in automation, instrumentation and control. Working closely with our offices in Labrador City, Montréal and Mont-Saint-Hilaire, this team is actively involved in developing the Sept-Îles region and in executing various projects in the mining and metals, and energy sectors. As part of this small, collaborative team, where proximity with colleagues is a priority, you'll benefit from BBA's network of recognized experts to support you in your mandates and your professional development. What's more, you'll have the opportunity to get actively involved on client sites.

As such, the firm is looking for someone to fill the position of Automation Engineer or a candidate to the engineering profession (CEP). Since the office is strategically located close to our clients, you’ll have several opportunities to perform site surveys, provide technical assistance to local clients, participate in commissioning new equipment and systems, and work on projects of all sizes. • Allocate tasks to technicians and drafters assigned to the project, review their work and assess the technical scope

Technical Responsibilities

• Prepare plans and specifications as well as detailed engineering deliverables (P&IDs, layout drawings, I/O loop and motor control diagrams, lists of cables and instruments, installation details)
• Draft reports, plans and specifications, construction and purchasing estimates and calls for tender
• Prepare technical data sheets and select instruments (flow, pressure, level) and control valves
• Provide technical assistance during construction work (electrical/instrumentation)
• Perform inspections or technical surveys
• Help with programming PLCs, DCSs and operator interfaces

Client Service Responsibilities

• Interact with clients and provide technical support to the team in charge of business development
• Establish and maintain contact with clients
• Define client needs and identify new needs during projects
• Participate in commercial and technical proposal preparation

Summary of Certifications and Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in automated production engineering, electrical engineering or other relevant training
• Three or fewer years of relevant experience
• Member of a Canadian professional engineering association
• Experience in design, instrumentation and control
• Experience in programming control systems (SCADA, PLC, DCS)
• Available to travel to and from our BBA offices in the Greater Montréal area
• Available for short- and long-term work assignments at client locations or sites
• Asset: Bilingual (English and French), both spoken and written
• Asset: Interest or relevant experience in automation and instrumentation, or participation in detailed engineering of a mining project in the energy sector
• Asset: Knowledge of ABB’s 800xA control platform
