Job summary

MEDA Limited in Ontario's Windsor region is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support an automotive client. The role is onsite and focuses on developing, maintaining, and supporting automated test scripts for EV battery pack development and validation testing.

You will work closely with battery test engineers to ensure current and evolving testing needs are met, create and review scripts, and ensure safety and procedural compliance during lab testing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3+ years of test scripting/automation experience.
  • Strong scripting in VB Script, MATLAB, Python; working knowledge of CAN communication.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and manage time in a fast-paced lab.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support automated test scripts for EV battery pack testing.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient execution of lab programs through automation.
  • Collaborate with battery test engineers to meet testing needs.
  • Create, peer review, validate, release, and maintain automation scripts.
  • Ensure scripts comply with safety requirements and procedures.
  • Provide on-testbed and post-test software support; troubleshoot issues.
  • Support data processing and analysis for test results.
  • Contribute to lab efficiency and cost reduction through automation initiatives.
  • Keep training and certifications up to date; escalate issues when needed.

Job description

We are recruiting an experienced Automation Engineer to join our team to support our client in the automotive industry.

NOTE:

  • Onsite
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support ongoing laboratory operations by developing, maintaining, and supporting automated test scripts for EV battery pack development and validation testing.
  • Focus on steady‑state lab operations, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient execution of test programs through high‑quality automation, scripting, and software support
  • Work closely with battery pack test engineers and test requestors to support current and evolving testing needs
  • Create, peer review, validate, release, and maintain automated test scripts used for battery pack testing
  • Ensure all test scripts comply with applicable safety requirements, test procedures, and functional requirements
  • Provide ongoing software and automation support to ensure proper execution of lab tests
  • Troubleshoot and resolve test script, software, and execution issues during testing
  • Provide on‑testbed support as needed to ensure tests are running safely and correctly
  • Support test engineers in test project meetings as required
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of issues identified during testing
  • Maintain open and effective communication with test requestors to stay aligned with testing requirements
  • Apply common software development processes and implement best practices to ensure script quality, reliability, and maintainability
  • Support test data processing and analysis when required
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve lab efficiency, throughput, and cost, including analysis, modeling, and simulation
  • Ensure all required training and certifications remain up to date
  • Escalate technical, safety, or operational issues to management as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in test scripting and automation of hardware systems (excluding software application testing)
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as VB Script, MATLAB, and Python
  • Working knowledge of CAN communication
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced lab environment
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with AVL PUMA / LYNX scripting environments
  • Experience using CAN tools such as Vector CANalyzer
  • Knowledge of Lithium‑ion battery systems and battery characterization
  • Experience with battery pack testing or related system‑level testing
  • Demonstrated effort to stay current with advancements in test automation and data management technologies
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • $41.00 - $45.00/hour ( depending on experience)
  • Paid Benefits after 90 days (individual and family) – extended medical, out-of-country coverage, dental etc.
  • Pension eligibility, with employer match, after 1 full year of work (open enrollment every October)
