Automation Engineer - Saskatoon, SK

This role is part of the Engineering, Technology & Capital group (ETC), and is key in guiding our network towards successful delivery of automation initiatives.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Automation. It is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and is not available for remote work. The role is based out of the Nutrien corporate office but will require travel to sites as needed.

Salary and title will be based on the candidate's education and experience.

What You Will Do
  1. Assist teams across the network in developing and executing automation projects to achieve strategic goals.
  2. Provide mentorship to engineers and technologists.
  3. Develop operational standards for automated systems across the network.
  4. Ensure continuity of process and engineering related to automation development and support.
  5. Share best practices across Nutrien’s network of mines.
  6. Identify opportunities for automation to support departmental goals.
  7. Engage with operations and maintenance to optimize automated systems.
  8. Analyze operational data for continuous improvement opportunities.
  9. Develop, test, and commission automation/control projects.
  10. Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies.
What You Will Bring
  1. At least 4 years of experience in an industrial environment, with expertise in automation/control systems design preferred.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic Systems, Software Systems Engineering, or similar.
  3. Registered member of APEGS with P.Eng designation.
  4. Knowledge of soft rock mining and underground mobile equipment automation is an asset.
  5. Control system programming skills (PLC/DCS/HMI/SCADA).
  6. Experience in commissioning and troubleshooting control systems.
  7. Experience in developing new technologies from research to implementation is an asset.
  8. Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence is an asset.
  9. Successful track record of automation project delivery.
  10. Passion for innovation and operational excellence.
  11. Excellent communication skills.
