Job summary

Johnson Electric is seeking an Automation Electrical Designer to design electrical control systems for automated machinery and robotic cells in an onsite role in Ontario. You will create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and documentation using EPLAN while supporting PLC/HMI testing, commissioning, and FAT.

  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3–6+ years of experience designing electrical control systems for industrial automation equipment.
  • Hands-on experience developing electrical schematics using EPLAN.
  • Experience with automated machinery, robotic cells, and industrial controls.
  • Strong understanding of CSA and UL electrical standards.
  • Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
  • Experience supporting PLC/HMI-based systems and machine commissioning activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a project environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems for automated machinery and robotic cells.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and documentation using EPLAN.
  • Support PLC and HMI testing, troubleshooting, and I/O checkout activities.
  • Assist with machine installation, startup, commissioning, and FAT activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues during machine builds and customer startups.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure designs comply with CSA, UL, ISO, and company standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation and controls.
  • Provide remote and onsite technical support as required.

Required: Experience designing industrial automation equipment using EPLAN. This is a full‑time onsite position in Ancaster, Ontario.

Salary Range 90K-115K Depending On Experience

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Design and develop electrical control systems for automated machinery and robotic cells.
