What will you do as an Automation Designer?
The Automation Designer plays a crucial role in achieving the Engineering team's mission by bridging the gap between R&D and manufacturing. This position focuses on qualifying, maintaining and troubleshooting all LMI’s sensor alignment and calibration equipment in collaboration with the Automation Design team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role is pivotal in maintaining the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing processes.
  • Validate, qualify, and commission sensor alignment and calibration equipment.
  • Conduct IQ/OQ/PQ.
  • Verify equipment design completeness and readiness for production utilization.
  • Service and maintain equipment.
  • Handle equipment related production escalation. Liaise between Production team and Automation and Software Development team.
  • Initiate and execute manufacturing process improvement activities. Reduce variation and non conformance. Identify and eliminate waste and inefficiencies using Lean principles.
  • Plan and implement modifications to workcell flow and layout according to Lean concepts to improve productivity. Develop standard work.
  • Develop measurement systems to monitor productivity.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve cost and yield.
  • Participate in design for manufacturing and assembly reviews. Develop manufacturing, serviceability and reliability requirements.
  • Address production issues, manage problem reports, conduct root cause analysis, and lead corrective actions utilizing the 8D methodology. Lead status review meetings with stakeholders.
  • Execute engineering change requests, engineering change orders, and related sustaining engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to LMI Employee Policy Manual.
What do you need to be successful?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Over 3 years of working experience in a similar role within a high-tech manufacturing environment. Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Expertise in manufacturing processes, particularly those involving high precision mechanical, electrical, electronics, or electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Excellent communicator. Capable of articulating Lean philosophy, vision and expectations.
  • Proficient in PLM document control systems, part number/BOM management, and project/task/milestone scheduling and tracking.
  • Familiarity with CAD design software and the ability to read/prepare mechanical drawings.
  • Action-oriented with leadership qualities to coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure the successful implementation of action plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills essential for effective collaboration within a team environment.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $85,500
